Project Description: Farm Mutual Reinsurance Plan Inc. is a 100% Canadian-owned mutual reinsurance company that provides a competitive edge to their members by providing underwriting capacity and financial stability. FMRP moved its organization into their new LEED certified office building in 2009 and aimed to achieve for LEED GOLD rating with the great support of their team. The 64,000 square feet building is designed to utilize natural resources to power the facility and save energy.
Design Intent: In order to receive LEED GOLD rating, FMRP has achieved the site sustainability, energy efficiency and indoor environmental quality through using innovative strategies and technologies that use natural elements such as light to save energy and costs. Although the technologies may come at a slightly higher price, the efficiencies paid for themselves in a very short time.
Solution: G-Line Shading and Lighting Integration for smart buildings enhanced FMRP’s ability to achieve LEED certification by reducing lighting energy costs by up to 45%. Shading and Lighting Integration consists of six imperative strategies:
- Daylight harvesting
- Task Tuning
- Personal Control
- Smart Time Scheduling
- Occupancy Control
- Variable Load Shedding
